Important News • DnD email addresses spoofed
If you
receive spam or virus/worm-loaded email that
appears
to be from a demonsanddarlings.com address, it's NOT!
Our domain has
apparently become prolific enough on the 'net that nefarious spammers
have been able to grab and falsely send emails which appear to be from
our domain (this is known as spoofing),
including my own (Slash, DnD Director) personal address
slashATdemonsanddarlingsDOTcom.
There is nothing I/we can do
about this except to ask, remind and recommend that everyone get, and
keep updated, anti-virus
software and ideally a firewall
on their computer(s). Also note that
I, Slash, have experience and worked in the computer industry for 27
years, therefore we have exceptional security on our end, all the way
from our website
hosting company to my personal machine from which I now write this.
To
help you identify whether an email was actually sent from us (before
you open it): 1) We
do not send unsolicited email directly to anyone's personal account, 2)
our subject headers are rarely, if ever, misspelled and 3) most often
we are either replying to you with a subject you will recognize OR we
begin the subject with something in square braces, very often "[Demon
News]" or "[Demon Update]". To learn more, read this article by another
industry expert, "Why I'm not sending you viruses". |

March 29 • Gothic Graze
Gothic
Graze occured at 7:00PM at Icosium
Kafe, 5200 N Clark St, 773-271-5233.
Icosium was suggested by one of our regular
Grazers and a great suggestion it was! This place specializes in
everything crepe from main course to dessert. Suggested combinations
for your crepe filling are on the menu, but you can also choose your
own from an amazing list of high quality ingredients - veggie or
carnivore. You can even get crepe fillings as a salad if you don't want
the crepe. So, food was awesome, but service was only "okay". They
don't take reservations, so I was worried we wouldn't have a table...
luckily I convinced them to at least make an effort to make room for us
and it turned out we had precisely the number of seats we needed. All
in all, I don't think I would make a special trip to Icosium, but
whenever I'm in the neighborhood again they'll be one of my top choices
to dine. --Slash |

February 17 • Gothic Stitch n Bitch - a craft & coffee
meet
February 16 • Gothic Graze
The plan was to dine at Alice & Friends Vegetarian Cafe, 5812 N
Broadway; 773-275-8797, but we all wound up going to Ethiopian Diamond, 6120 N Broadway, 773-338-6100
instead.
Alice's doesn't take reservations, even though they're a rather small
restaurant. I and my partner Michael showed up at 6:45PM to attempt to
get us a table(s) for the 6 RSVP's, but was told they didn't know how
long it would be before we could be seated. The staff were polite, but
were rather vacant and didn't appear terribly interested in finding a
way to accomodate us. As it turned out, our party increased to 10 while
we were waiting outside - meanwhile smaller parties were being seated.
Clearly, this restaurant wasn't going to make an effort to hold tables
to make room for us. Therefore, once the last of our expected guests
arrived, we all agreed to go to the Ethiopian Diamond a few blocks
north.
Hopefully no one else showed up at Alice's after 7:15. I called Alice's
to request that they steer any late-comers over to Ethiopian Diamond,
and they said they would, but of course they're under no obligation to
do so.
At Ethiopian Diamond, with a party of 10 and no reservation and despite
the fact that the place was quite packed, we were seated very quickly!
We received water and napkins right away, menus shortly thereafter, but
alas, service declined from that point on. I must comment that I've
been to Ethiopian Diamond many times, often with large groups, and
never had such slow service. While they're usually quite busy on the
weekends, they seemed overwhelmed by what appeared to be a larger than
normal crowd for that time of night on a Saturday. The owner himself
was our server (a rare occurrence on weekends, so I assume they were
short-staffed) and eventually, about 20 minutes after being seated he
came by to let us know he'd be back shortly to take our orders. We then
waited another 15 minutes before one of our party flagged down another
staffer who then reminded the owner to come take our orders. Once
orders were finally placed, we waited extraordinarily long for our
food, although we were visited twice during our wait with apologies
that it was taking so long.
Regardless of our long wait, I personally excuse the restaurant - we
were a large party without reservation and were treated politely and
with apology. The food was consistent with my own previous experiences,
quite exceptional! Sadly, while my own previous experience has shown a
great deal of respect for vegans/vegetarians, two of our party received
the wrong order - a fish dish as opposed to the tofu alicha (a new
item) they ordered. With such difficulties, as one would expect, we
weren't charged for the extra dish and they left the wine orders and a
couple of other beverages off of our ticket.
Overall, some of our party may not return to Ethiopian Diamond, but
most enjoyed the food they received and knowing that such mistakes are
rare for this restaurant, I would encourage people to return. --Slash
