--Terra Mysterium performance collective presents their Halloween show. "Professor Marius Mandragore, internationally renowned master of multifarious arcane arts, once again hosts a magical salon for seekers of mysterium. For this auspicious symposium, the salon room will be unveiled in the Windy City and is currently aligning itself to the terrestrial energies of American soil. It misses tea time terribly. The professor cordially invites you to join him and his esteemed colleagues for an evening devoted to an exploration of the phenomenon of witchcraft, cunning creatures of the night, and phantasms from beyond. The professor guarantees that he and his colleagues shall be able to elucidate the impenetrable (or at least make their topics somewhat permeable) for even the most insensitive of sensitives. In other words, no prior experience in the occult sciences is required for attendance. Open minds, fancy dress, and polite manners, however, are most welcome. Cumbersome parcels, melancholic dispositions, and demon spawn may be stored at the coat check. Refreshments shall be provided for a slight fee (we have to pay the apprentices something, otherwise it will be another year of watercress sandwiches)." La Costa Theatre, 3931 N Elston, 2nd floor, (773) 383-9104; $20 adults, $18 students with ID (visit Terra Mysterium for advance tickets); 7:30pm-10:30pm (3 nights only, 10/15-17); all ages.

--Haute
Horror - two horror films, one week.
Dazzling animated anthology FEAR(S) OF THE DARK, presented in
beautifully austere black-and-white, plumbs the dark recesses of the
mind—cerebral, sexual, and primal. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN centers on
12-year-old loner Oskar who becomes attracted and attached to the new
girl next door and learns she is quite different from other kids. LET
THE RIGHT ONE IN is an adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's
international bestseller and is uniquely Swedish, beautiful, and
quietly terrifying. Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N State St; various
film times; $9.00 general admission, discounts for students, members
and discount on 2nd film when purchased together.

--Spetsnaz and Obscenity
Trial dual headlining United Tour 2008 with DJs Noir and Brianne. Cafe Lura,
3184 N Milwaukee; $8.00 cover; 10PM-3AM; 21+.
"Swedish electro-berzerkers Spetsnaz were formed by
Pontus Stålberg and Stefan Nilsson in Örebro, Sweden in the
autumn of 2001. With the powerful vocals, frenetic pounding bass lines
and relentless rhythmic assault, Spetsnaz have the aggression and the
melody to be the missing link between the heavy scene and the pop
scene."
"..it is the strong voice of Oliver Wand that carries the catchy
electropop songs like ’Go Away’ and ’Lecture’... ’My Mind Your Mind’ is
a potential single with a huge 80’s feel that can go straight into the
charts. ’So Easy’ and ’Inside Out’ remind a bit of And One and the dark
EBM influenced ’This Place’ reminds of Covenant.. Obscenity Trial
delivers a very well-balanced album with That Night of which I’m sure
it will appeal to many people." |

--"eMotion pictures: An Exhibition of Orthopaedics in Art"
runs April 10 - July 20 at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E Washington
-FREE- call (312) 744-6630 for information. This juried
exhibit features work by more than 100 orthopaedic
physicians and patients from around the world (16 from Chicago).
The exhibit tells stories of feelings, of injury, dealing with pain and
recovery, disability...all through art... Another artist's piece,
"Degeneration," is a humorous riff on a spine
with
an injured disc - it is a stack of doughnuts with their jelly filling
squirting out... *The glass skeleton sculpture is the centerpiece of
the exhibit,
and from the picture in the paper, looks pretty amazing.
